On the second Saturday afternoon of each month, we will open our lounge for a very casual tasting of a variety of retail wines.  Sample five wines for five dollars.  These wines are a great addition to your cellar; some for current enjoyment and some may be cellared for a time.  No reservations are needed.  Stop in and sample a few wines and chat with Manager Jeff Elasky about your wine interests.  Over the years, we have built strong relationships with many wineries and may be able to offer some hard to get wines as well.  Looking for something in particular?  Let us know!

All of the wines sampled today will be available for retail purchase, with discounts for case purchases.
(Light hors d'oeuvre will be served as well)

Wines to be tasted August 9th, 2008

Elsa Bianchi 2007 Torrontes, Argentina
Torrontes is a wine of pleasing fruit intensity both in the nose and on the palate.  Clean refreshing aromas with hints of spice, fruit, and honey that lead to similar flavors on the palate, with good natural acidity and a clean refreshing finish. This variety is blessed with the ability to develop these nice aromas and flavors at relatively low sugars which translates into better balance for a light- medium bodied white wine.  $7.99

2006 Domaine Guidon Muscadet, Cuvee Prestige, France
The pre-eminent grower in the Coteaux de la Loire (east of Savenierres and the sole Muscadet appellation along the river Loire itself), Jacques Guindon achieves consistently excellent (and in fact remarkably ageworthy) results from the fruits of his oldest vines.  $10.99
2007 High Note Malbec, Argentina
The velvety texture and deep flavor of the small juicy berries of High Note’s Malbec grapes are distinctively influenced by the environment in which they are grown. Our Uco Valley vineyards, high in the Andes foothills of Mendoza, enjoy the perfect combination of elements for growing this unique varietal. Intense sunlight, cool temperatures and dry conditions allow for the fruit to slowly mature until handpicked for optimal flavor.  The result is High Note’s brilliant violet color and with intense, sweet spice on the palate balanced by notes of plums, cassis, blackberries, and black cherries. It is creamy, smooth, and ripe in the mouth with soft, round tannins and a long silky finish.  $12.99

Leone Rosso, Toscana, 2007
From Montespertoli's most famous estate comes this terrifically fresh, vibrant, floral SuperTuscan blend.  Winemaker Barone Alessandro de Renzis Sonnino is one of the most beloved characters in the Small Vineyards family - a renegade of sorts who enjoys making wines his own way.  Here, he has made a truly appealing, syrah-driven blend that has the immediate drinkability of a chianti, and the complexity of a SuperTuscan. $11.99

2005 Moccagatta Dolcetto d'Alba
"Brothers Sergio and Franco Minuto make excellent, modern styled Barbarescos from their vineyards in Barbaresco and Neive. Readers looking for an elegant and modern interpretation of Barbaresco will find much to admire in the Moccagatta wines.  Moccagatta also makes small quantities of deliciously pure Dolcetto. $14.99
